Spending upwards of $100,000 per year can be a real drag on business, but that comes with running a successful heavy equipment rental company in the Lower Mainland of Vancouver. At least, that was the expectation of our founding company, Rent1 for several years.

But throughout that time, Rent1 was continuously frustrated with the dealerships that maintained and repaired their heavy equipment. From excessive downtime during repairs, long wait times for appointments, charges for unexpected repairs, additional fees for overtime labor, and a lack of communication… Rent1 knew there had to be a better way.

Initially they connected with local Red Seal certified technicians as a solution to their own problem - a way to bring down costs and reduce downtime. Then others began asking for access to these connections, and more and more technicians were leaving their dealership jobs to provide better service on their own.

The rise of better preventative maintenance solutions like GPS (telematics) devices made it even easier to provide faster, better service. Yet, dealerships just weren’t picking up on it and that was a sorely missed opportunity.

TekamoHD may have been Rent1’s solution to their own frustrations with fleet maintenance, but it was a solution everyone else was waiting for.
