Spending $100,000 a year is a real drag on business, but that comes with running a successful heavy equipment rental company (Rent1) in the Lower Mainland. At least, that was the expectation of our founder Kevin Haluk for several years.

But throughout that time, Kevin was continuously frustrated with the dealerships that maintained and repaired his heavy equipment. From excessive downtime during repairs, long wait times for appointments, charges for unexpected repairs, additional fees for overtime labor, and a lack of communication… Kevin knew there had to be a better way.

Initially he connected with other local red seal certified technicians as a solution to his own problem- a way to bring down costs and reduce downtime. But others began asking for access to these connections, and more and more technicians were leaving their dealerships to provide better service on their own.

The rise of better preventative maintenance solutions like GPS (telematics) devices made it even easier to provide faster, better service. Yet, dealerships just weren’t picking up on it and that was a sorely missed opportunity.

Tekamo may have been Kevin’s solution to his own frustrations with fleet maintenance, but it was a solution everyone else was waiting for.
